History

Tenuta di Punta Licosa has kept the spirit of the time when it was built intact.

Designed as a hunting lodge by the princes of this territory, the Belmonte family, today it retains its authenticity, guardian of the private natural oasis in which it is immersed and of its glorious past.

While modernity has touched it to improve its services, the atmosphere of Tenuta di Punta Licosa has remained unchanged, heir to the splendour of the past that has survived the test of time.

The Granito Pignatelli family of Belmonte is one of the oldest and most noble families in Italy, reigning in southern Italy for centuries.

Here, in 1619, one of the Italian men closest to the Spanish royal family, Orazio Giovan Battista Ravaschieri Fieschi dei conti di Lavagna, Baron of Belmonte and Badolato, received the title of Prince from King Philip III. The family’s history began here and continues to this day.

Some time later, with the union of the Belmonte family with the historic and noble Granito family, the Princes also re-established their territories in the areas of Naples and Salerno.

And it is precisely here that some of the family’s most famous and richest estates are located today, including Tenuta di Punta Licosa, an ancient hunting reserve where the Spanish and Italian royals loved to stay, together with the Princes, to participate in the hunting of wild boars and quails in the area.

Today, the direct heir, Angelo Granito Pignatelli XIII Prince of Belmonte, is still the owner and custodian of the beauty of this private natural oasis.

One of the coats of arms of the Granito di Belmonte family still represents the splendour and importance that these princes held for the Spanish royals who granted them their title: the rampant lion – which in ancient times was also accompanied by the motto Rumpar non flectar, meaning “I break but I do not bend” – divided into blue and gold, representing the lower edge of the family’s shield.

The story of the Granito Pignatelli family of Belmonte continues to be told, not only by their direct descendants, such as Prince Angelo, but above all by the numerous guests who today can enjoy the beauty of the villas, the surrounding area and the sea that embraces it. A story that remains in the background of beautiful tales, extraordinary days and unforgettable holidays. A story that evokes the evocative and fascinating contours of the past, but which also encapsulates the stories of those who choose to enjoy Tenuta di Punta Licosa for their holiday stay.

Tenuta di Punta Licosa is one of Italy’s most beautiful private nature reserves, but in ancient times, when the Princes who built it lived here, it was a hunting reserve.

Here, time moves at a different pace and nature has preserved history.

Now it's up to you to explore it.
